Mech Design Models

Now available are a few more design models from the Kesmai art department, originally intended for the first version of MPBT:3025. They are very close to the final EA versions of these 'mechs. However, they were also about two years before the EA version of 3025.

Gamestorm, Solaris, Hacking and Blacklisting

In May, 1999 upgrades were implemented to the GameStorm instance of Solaris to identify hacking that was rampant in the game. The hacks that were common at the time included modifying the damage, speed, and armor values that were passed from the client to the ARIES server.

This was different from the Windows "warp" cheat that was common--that was primarily a packet loss issue rather than manually modifying the data sent to the game server.

More 3025 Mech Selections

Screenshots of the UrbanMech and Enforcer 'mech selection options as archived by Futurelooks from the public beta of 3025 (EA version) back in late 2001.

In MPBT: Solaris, the UrbanMech was generally considered one of the more worthless 'mech options available. Very slow, lightly armed, marginal armor. Expert piloting skill was barely able to compensate when standing up to most other 'mechs.

Gamers' Stories - The Defense of Frontera - Part I

Originally published in GameStorm's Storm Report, this story is MPBT: Solaris fan fiction written by long-time MPBT player, Legend Killer.

A beautiful woman hurriedly trotted down the ferrocrete street. This in and of itself was not unusual, there are lots of beautiful women in the universe.

Although normally they don't have a look of pure terror on their faces and they don't have all their worldly possessions strapped to their backs. Lieutenant Patrick O'Gara chuckled and refocused his attention from the streets below him back to his HUD.

Usenet Review — MPBT: Solaris

Gleaned from Usenet archives is an early review of MPBT: Solaris, circa February, 1997.

Solaris had been in open beta for nearly a year at that point, the version reviewed was after dozens of bugs fixed but before the scope was expanded--arenas originally only contained one ready room rather than four per arena, which was implemented after MPBT: Solaris gained popularity on AOL.
