The detail on the 'mechs is pretty incredible, I think. Especially considering the technology available in 2000-ish, while the production team still kept the entire game download at roughly 30MB.
My personal favorite of this batch is the Atlas. Definitely one of the most intimidating looking 'mechs in the game.
Tales From the Grateful Burger
Submitted by Grond on 1 November 2008 - 1:18am.Fan fiction from an unknown Mechwarrior on Solaris, circa 1998.
You walk into the bar named The Grateful Burger and grab a seat. An old grizzled bartender is spinning yarns of the 'good old days of combat' and has an audience of about five or six intensely listening to his old tales. He sees you sit down and walks over. You notice a white stool behind the bar with an old uniformed jacket on it.

More Solaris Map Screenshots

Four more screenshots of various areas on the Solaris map.
Many of the bars and taverns were traditional gathering points for specific units or groups. Players from outside the unit (or, House command) were generally not very welcomed into "owned" bars. The taverns were also used as in-game command posts during the various incarnations of the pseudo-wars organized on Solaris.
The descriptions below are from my memory and notes and may not be accurate to any degree.
